Sontag enters Intent to Compete phase

Organizers with the University of Nevada, Reno Sontag Entrepreneurship Competition opened its Intent to Compete form to students interested in vying for the $50,000 prize.

The process requires a list of team members and a business idea, according to a newsletter released Wednesday. Deadline is midnight on Oct. 17.

The Sontag competition takes place throughout the academic year and culminates in the winning team earning $50,000 to expand its business. Organizers hold weekly workshops during the fall semester to help students refine their business plans and pitches. Mentors include University faculty members as well as Reno business leaders and professionals.

“What we’re trying to do is create an ecosystem for entrepreneurship,” professor Dave Croasdell told the Ozmen Center for Entrepreneurship in a September interview.

Finalists will be selected in December and will present their business ideas to a panel of judges in the spring semester. The top prize is funded by a 2011 endowment from alumnus Rick Sontag.
